FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's and women's tennis teams competed at Farmingdale State College on Saturday, Oct. 12. The men secured a 9-0 win and the women fell by a score of 9-0.
In the men's team's last match of fall-play, they asserted themselves well. The Valiants were sound at both doubles and singles play. In doubles play, all three pairings won. At first doubles, senior
Juan Huertas (Bogotá, Colombia/La Salle (H.S.) (Calif.)) and junior
Jan Senkerik (Zlin, Czech Republic/The Hill Academy) won by a score of 8-1. At second doubles, graduate student
Soya Goto (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and sophomore
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) won 8-1 as well and at third doubles sophomore
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) and freshman
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) secured an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, Manhattanville did not drop a set. Huertas won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, Senkerik won by the same score, 6-1, 6-0 at second singles and at third singles Goto took a 6-1, 6-2 victory. In the fourth singles spot, Schlapak won 6-4, 6-2, at fifth singles Crowley won 6-3, 6-1 and at sixth singles, freshman
Asa Barkan (Pleasantville, N.Y./Briarcliff) defeated his opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
The win gave the Valiants a 2-1 team record in fall-play. They will not return to the court until Saturday, Feb. 22, when they participate in the Ranger Invitational in Madison, N.J.
The women's match fared much differently than the men's. The Valiants were unable to take a single match against Skyline conference opponent Farmingdale. At first singles, sophomore
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) lost 3-6, 6-1, 1-0. It was her first loss in singles-play this season. Charley's first set win was the only set Manhattanville was able to secure in singles-play.
The women are now 3-5 overall and have a 2-3 record in the conference. They will return to action for a home match on Tuesday, Oct. 15, against Purchase College for the Battle of Anderson Hill Road starting at 4:00 P.M.
