THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's soccer team hit the road and extended its unbeaten streak to nine games. The Valiants earned a 1-0 victory over Skyline Conference opponent Maritime College, Tuesday, Oct.15. The lone goal was scored by junior midfielder Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil) who has now recorded a point in four-straight games.
Bravo Olle's goal was scored in the fifth minute when he tucked a free kick into the top right corner of the goal. The tally was his eighth of the season. The first half was a tight affair following the goal. Manhattanville (9-2-2, 6-0-1 Skyline) controlled play for most of the half, but Maritime (7-8-1, 2-4-1 Skyline) mounted an attack of their own during the period and shots were five to four in favor of the Privateers at the end of the half.
Strong play from freshman goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) and freshman defender Ruben Milano (Houston, Texas/Lamar) kept the Valiants afloat in the first half. Milano stepped in to help his keeper and had a goal clearance in the period to keep his team in the lead.
The Crimson and White controlled possession for most of the second half. There was not much significant play until late in the game when a shot from the Privateers rattled off the post just before time expired. Manhattanville escaped a possible overtime period and secured the win to remain undefeated in conference play.
Siwiec made two saves in the effort and recorded his third shutout of the season. The Valiants back line deserves its share of credit as well. The defense allowed just three shots on goal and were a big part of the one-goal victory.
Manhattanville resumes play on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Kings Point, N.Y. against the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Valiants will look to remain undefeated in Skyline play against an opponent that sits in third place in the conference standings. Just one slot behind Manhattanville.
