Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten in Skyline with Yet Another Extra Time Win, 1-0 at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team went on the road and beat Skyline Conference opponent the United States Merchant Marine Academy by a score of 1-0 on Saturday night, Oct. 19, to extend its unbeaten run to 10 straight. The game's lone goal was scored in the second overtime period by junior midfielder Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil), who now has nine goals for the season and leads the conference with 27 points.

The first half was tight, with the Valiants (10-2-2, 7-0-1 Skyline) controlling possession for most of the play. They attempted 10 shots to Merchant Marine's (9-5-1,6-2-1 Skyline) four, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. However, all on-target attempts by both teams were denied by the others' goalkeepers and the first half went scoreless.

The second half of the game saw a much-improved Merchant Marine attack as the home team outshot the Crimson and White in shots on goal, 2-0. Manhattanville, however, imposed its will on the game and controlled play for the most of the half and the game was sent to overtime at the end of 90 minutes with a stalemate – the sixth time this season the Valiants have gone to extra time.

The Crimson and White finally had a breakthrough in the 104th minute of the second overtime with a goal from Bravo Olle, assisted by junior defender Alex Juma (Harlem, N.Y./NYC iSchool) and sophomore Cody LaCava (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt), to win the game. Freshman goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, making four saves. The Valiants are now 4-0-2 in games that have gone past regulation time this season.

Manhattanville returns to action on the road again on Wednesday night, Oct. 23, at St. Joseph's College-Long Island. The Valiants and Golden Eagles kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Patchogue, N.Y. St. Joe's-L.I. leads the all-time series 7-4, but Manhattanville won the most recent matchup 1-0 on Long Island last season.
