Women's Volleyball Wins Tight 3-Setter at CMSV

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College volleyball program defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, who entered tonight third in the Skyline Conference standings in a fierce three set match. The Valiants took home a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 28-26) win over the Dolphins tonight, Oct. 23. Manhattanville still sits at the top of the Skyline standings as post season approaches.

The Valiants (20-5, 9-0 Skyline) and Dolphins (13-9, 7-2 Skyline) went point-for-point majority of the match as no team could gain a comfortable lead. Sophomore Alejandra Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa-Bell) lead the team in kills tonight with 18. She tallied seven kills within the first set and freshman Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Perpetuo Socorro) assisted six of them.

Manhattanville pulled ahead in the final points of the second set. Figueroa marked three kills leading up to the set point where freshman Felicity Hoffert (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) closed the set for the Valiants. Senior Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) totaled 13 kills in the match and four in the second set.

The Dolphins put up a strong fight in the third pushing the Valiants to 28 points. Freshman Caylee Premoli (White Plains, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) fired a serve towards CMSV's Oliva Kane that resulted in an ace. Following a kill from Vital, Permoli notched another two service aces totaling four throughout the night. As the Dolphins inched closer to taking the third set, Brauer converted on the final two attack attempts of the game and sent Manhattanville home victorious.

Hoffert ended the night with seven kills and two digs, following her sophomore Emma Dronzek (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart) notched four kills and zero errors. Vital had 41 of the 45 assists and freshman Geena Torres (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) totaled 16 digs.

Manhattanville will travel to Boston, Mass. this Saturday, Oct. 26, to play in the Emerson College Tri-Match. The team will face Brandeis University at 1:00 p.m. and the hosting Lions at 3:00 p.m.
