PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's tennis team defeated Sarah Lawrence College by a score of 8-1 in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 5. The win was the second of the season for the Valiants.
Manhattanville (2-4, 2-2 Skyline) saw solid performances throughout the lineup at both singles and doubles. At singles, the Valiants took five of the six matches. In the first singles position, sophomore Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) won 6-1, 6-0, at second singles, senior Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) won 6-0, 6-0, at third singles, senior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) won 6-0, 6-4, at fourth singles, sophomore Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) won 6-0, 6-1 and at fifth singles, freshman Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) won 6-1, 6-0. The team's lone loss came at the sixth singles position, where freshman Amaya Carver (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Vernon) lost a tough match by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 to Ellie O'Brian of Sarah Lawrence (0-8, 0-4 Skyline).
The Crimson and White were just as successful in their doubles matches. At first doubles, Charley and Lovejoy defeated their opponent 8-1, at second doubles, Tonnesen and Ulzheimer secured an 8-0 victory and at third doubles Brown and Carver won by a score of 8-4.
The Valiants have now won two out of there last three matches and all have been against Skyline competition. Manhattanville steps away from conference-play when they take on non-conference opponent William Patterson University tomorrow, Sunday, Oct 6, in Wayne, N.J.
