Women's Hockey Falls to Nazareth By 3-1 Score

RYE, N.Y. The Manhattanville College women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Nazareth College Friday, Feb. 8 at Playland Ice Casino after winning four of its previous five games.

Both teams had power play opportunities in the first period, but nobody was able to break through as both goaltenders kept the opposition off the board.

After nearly 34 minutes of play without a goal, the Golden Flyers (18-3-1, 12-3-0 UCHC) were finally able to break through as Hannah Tulchinsky picked up her fourth goal of the season to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead that would hold up through the end of the second.

In the third, the Valiants (13-7-2, 9-5-1 UCHC) were able to even the score on the power play as junior forward Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1, with junior defenders Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride (JWHL)) providing the assists.

But Nazareth would answer just over two minutes later, as Jessica Kollberg beat Valiants goaltender Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) to give the road team the lead once again. The Flyers would add an insurance goal later in the period, as Emily Kromer scored to give Nazareth a 3-1 lead that would hold up as the final score.

Manhattanville currently sits five points behind Nazareth for fourth place in the UCHC standings, and will have the opportunity to close the gap to three points when the two teams face off once again Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Playland Ice Casino.
