15-Goal First Half Powers Women's Lacrosse Past Mount St. Mary

PURCHASE, NY – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 16-6 non-conference win over the Mount St. Mary College Knights Wednesday, March 14 at GoValiants.com Field.

The freshman trio of Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central), Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) and Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) combined for 11 of Manhattanville's (3-0) goals while the sophomore quartet of Bella Cosentino (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville), Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Kayla Telesky (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) combined for the other five, adding five assists as well. Courtney Condron had a hat trick for Mount St. Mary (0-3).

Goals from Cosentino and Logue put Manhattanville up 2-0 just 36 seconds into the game, part of an eventual 10 unanswered goals in the first 9:04 of game action. Keenan was pivotal in multiple facets of the Valiants' attack, adding six of the game's first 10 draw controls, enabling Manhattanville to dominate possession throughout much of the first half. Three of Keenan's four goals also came during Manhattanville's game-opening spurt.

Condron book-ended two goals around a goal apiece from O'Mara and Petricca to make it 12-2 with just over 12 minutes left in the first half, but Keenan, Logue and Petricca added a goal each over the final 10:40, pushing the Valiants' lead to 15-2 at the half.

The 15 goals were the most scored by Manhattanville in a single half in its last 16 contests, dating back to a 23-3 win last March 17 over Elms, when the team put 18 on the board in the first half.

With the 10+ goal margin running clock in effect from the opening whistle of the second half, the Knights' scored the first three goals, but not before more than 18 minutes had come off the game clock. Logue completed her hat trick scoring Manhattanville's final goal of the game with 4:48 remaining, while Jackie Lindsay added a free position goal for Mount St. Mary in the game's final minute.

Junior goalie Bella Marchiselli (Williston Park, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) made nine saves for Manhattanville for her 15th collegiate victory.

The Valiants hit the road for the first time in 2019 on Saturday, March 16, for an 11 a.m. non-conference affair with the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz.
