DANBURY, Conn. — The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team suffered a setback Wednesday, March 27, falling 18-6 to Western Connecticut State University at the Westside Athletic Complex.
WestConn's Lauren Bradshaw got the Colonials started with two early goals, but the Valiants were able to pull within one when freshman midfielder
Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) scored her eighth goal of the season, converting on a player up opportunity to bring the score to 2-1.
The Colonials would then go on a 3-0 run to extend the lead to 5-1, but freshman midfielder
Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) scored two of the next three goals to cut the lead to 6-3. The home team would then rattle off five unanswered goals to end the first half, giving WestConn an 11-3 lead at the break.
The Colonials kept up the offense in the second half, scoring four of the first five goals, with Keenan scoring once again for the Valiants. Manhattanville got back-to-back goals midway through the second half from sophomore midfielder
Diana Piacquadio (Port Washington, N.Y./Gilmour Academy) and sophomore midfielder
Hailey DeStasio (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead). But it was not enough, as WestConn would pick up three late goals, giving the home team an 18-6 victory.
The Valiants look to get back in the win column when they take on Rutgers University-Camden Saturday, March 30, with game time schedule for 1:00 p.m.
