DeSales' Big Third Quarter the Difference as Men's Lacrosse Falls in MAC Freedom Action

PURCHASE, NY – The Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game to the DeSales University Bulldogs 13-7 Wednesday April 10 from GoValiants.com Field.

Junior Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay) finished with a hat trick and added two assists for Manhattanville (6-5, 1-2 MACF). Duval's classmate Gianni Ciffone (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) added two goals and two assists, fellow junior Ryan Leonard (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored a goal and senior Sam Hahn (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) added his first goal of the season for Manhattanville. Junior goalkeeper Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Portledge) added 21 saves for the Valiants.

For the Bulldogs, Tom Connors had four goals, Justin Monaghan added three goals and an assist and Matt Barry stopped 15 of 22 shots on goal.

A pair of Duval goals and Hahn's score had the Valiants up 3-1 less than halfway through the opening quarter, but the Bulldogs countered with the period's final three scores for a 4-3 lead. Duval completed his hat trick in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs ended the low-scoring stanza with a 6-4 halftime lead.

After scoring the final goal of the first half, Connors added three more in a decisive third quarter for DeSales (12-0, 3-0 MACF). The Bulldogs outscored the Valiants 6-2 in the quarter, holding a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The fourth quarter was much like the second, with each side finding the back of the net only once as Frezza and Barry stopped 11 of 13 shots on goal.

The Valiants' MAC Freedom slate continues Saturday, April 13 with a 1:00 p.m. road battle with the Misericordia University Cougars.
