Valiants Drop Road Matchup to DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Following a conference victory in their last game versus Wilkes University, the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team fell 20-5 to DeSales University Wednesday, April 10 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play.

The Valiants (5-6, 1-2 MACF) were able to take the early lead on a goal by sophomore attack Bella Cosentino (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) with just under eight minutes gone by. But from that point on, DeSales (7-5, 2-1 MACF) seized control of the game, scoring eight consecutive goals, with the Bulldogs' Katie Stordy alone picking up four. The run gave the home team an 8-1 lead heading into the intermission following Manhattanville's early goal.

The second half started off similar to the first, with freshman attack Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) picking up a goal early on, with freshman midfielder Lara Keenan (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) providing the assist. From there, DeSales scored four more unanswered goals to take a 12-2 lead with just under nine minutes gone by in the second half. The Valiants were then able to pick up another goal from sophomore midfielder Diana Piacquadio (Port Washington, N.Y./Gilmour Academy), but the Bulldogs would follow up with three more goals to extend their lead to 12. Freshman midfielder Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) and Keenan were able to add two of the next three goals, but that would be all the offense the visitors could come up with in a 20-5 loss, dropping the Valiants to 1-2 in conference play.

The Valiants return to action when they continue MAC Freedom play versus Misericordia University Saturday, April 13, with game time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
