Women's Tennis Falls to FDU in MAC Freedom Play

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Following a victory over King's College (Pa.) in their last outing, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday, April 10 at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.

Freshman Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) picked up a victory for the Valiants in first singles, defeating Nicole Del Rosso 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. In second singles action, senior Lizza Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) came away with an impressive straight-set victory, defeating Christine Kenny 6-1, 6-4. Junior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) dropped a three-set matchup with Allyson Wolf in third singles, falling 6-4, 1-6, 3-6. Freshman Sam Altman was unable to pick up a victory in fourth singles, falling 1-6, 1-6 to Kira Bradley. In fifth singles, sophomore Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) was able to get in the win column for the Valiants, picking up a straight set victory over Mia Capozzi (6-2, 6-4). Senior Cassie Williamson (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School) fell in straight sets to Erin Weller in sixth singles by a score of 1-6, 0-6.

In first doubles action, Charley and Gonzalez picked up an 8-4 victory. Lovejoy and Altman fell in second singles 8-1, followed by Tonnesen and freshman Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) falling by the same score in third doubles. The loss dropped Manhattanville to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play.

The Valiants return to action Friday, April 12, when they host New Paltz at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts starting at 3:30 p.m.
