Women's Tennis Drops Non-Conference Matchup With New Paltz, Men's Tennis Play Suspended Due to Weather

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Coming off a tough 5-4 defeat versus Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham two days ago, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team was unable to get back in the win column, falling to New Paltz 9-0 Friday, April 12 at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.

Freshman Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) fell in first singles to Trinity Chow 2-6, 2-6. In second singles, Lizza Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) dropped a 1-6, 1-6 decision to Laura Koob. Junior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) fell in straight sets as well in third singles action, with Victoria Zezula picking up a 6-2, 6-2 victory, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 victory by the Hawks' Courtney Koran over freshman Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) in fourth singles. Senior Cassie Williamson (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School) dropped a straight set match with Lindsay Haley in fifth singles (1-6, 0-6), and in sixth singles freshman Ariel Abdul-Mateen (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School for Medical Professions) fell to Maddy Bourne 0-6, 0-6.

Manhattanville was unable to find success in doubles action as well, as Charley and Gonzalez were defeated 8-4 in first doubles competition by Chow and Koob. Lovejoy and Ulzheimer fell to Zezula and Haley by an 8-0 score, followed by Williamson and sophomore Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) dropping an 8-1 decision to Cielle Pappalardo and Jessica Reich.

The Valiants return to the court Saturday, April 13, when they host Misericordia University in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play, starting at 1:00 p.m.

The men's team took to the court Friday as well and held a 4-2 lead over Farmingdale State, but play was suspended due to rain. The official date and time for completion of the match are TBD.
