DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — The Manhattanville College men's and women's tennis teams continued to roll, with both teams picking up victories over Delaware Valley University in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Wednesday, April 17.
In men's first doubles, junior
Juan Huertas (Bogotá, Colombia/La Salle (H.S.) (Calif.)) and sophomore
Jan Senkerik (Zlin, Czech Republic/The Hill Academy)Â had a strong 8-3 victory, with freshmen
Alvaro de la Plaza (Malaga, Spain/Homeschooled (Laurel Springs, Calif.)) and
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) picking up a perfect 8-0 win in second doubles. In third doubles, the team of junior
Alex Fleischman (Riverside, Conn./King) and freshman
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) came away with an 8-2 victory to give the Valiants a clean sweep in doubles action.
Huertas picked up the win for Manhattanville in first singles, coming away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, followed by Senkerik's second singles victory in a 6-0, 6-2 decision. de la Plaza was successful in third singles, winning the match 6-0, 6-1. In fourth singles, Fleischman had a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory to put the Valiants up 7-0. Freshman
Dylan Mund (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood Regional) competed in fifth singles for the Valiants, winning a 6-1, 6-0 matchup, and Crowley finished things off with a 6-0, 6-0 win in sixth singles, giving the Valiants a 9-0 victory. With the win, the men's team improves to 4-1 in conference play.
On the women's side, freshman
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and senior
Lizza Gonzalez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) won an 8-2 decision in first doubles action, followed by seniors
Stephanie Stumm (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) and
Cassie Williamson (White Plains, N.Y./The Ursuline School) falling by a 6-8 score in second doubles.
Charley was successful in singles play as well, picking up an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win first singles action. In second singles, Gonzalez had a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win to put the Valiants ahead 3-1 on the day. In third singles, sophomore
Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy)Â had a strong 6-0, 6-2 victory, followed by freshman
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) dropping a three-set match by a 6-3, 2-6, 3-6 score in fourth singles. Third doubles, as well as fifth and sixth singles, were defaulted to the Valiants, giving Manhattanville a 7-2 win on the day and a 3-1 record in the conference.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams are back in action Wednesday, April 24, when the teams continue MAC Freedom play in home matchups versus DeSales University, with matches getting underway at 3:30 p.m.
