Dominant Second Quarter Leads Men’s Lacrosse over DelVal

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Thanks to a five-goal second quarter and an 8-2 advantage in the first half, the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team picked up the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory Wednesday night, April 17, at home over Delaware Valley University by a score of 10-5.

The Valiants (7-6, 2-3 MACF) found themselves trailing 2-1 with under five minutes gone in the first quarter, but that would be the last time they trailed the visiting Aggies (5-9, 0-5 MACF), as they went on an 9-0 run and took a 10-2 lead with 13:09 remaining in the third quarter.

Junior T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) kicked off the run with his 16th of the season at 5:36 in the first, and proceeded to score three more throughout that run. The two squads combined for just five goals in the second half, but Manhattanville held off Delaware Valley to come away with the victory.

Overall, four Valiants finished with four points apiece, including Caccavo with his four scores. He was joined by fellow junior Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay), to scored three times and added an assist as well a pair of ground balls, rookie Nick Lambiase (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and his two goals and two assists and another junior in Nick Delia (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) – he notched four helpers to go with four ground balls.

Sophomore Simon Boisvert (Pointe Claire, Que./Millbrook School) led all players with five ground balls and senior Sam Hahn (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) was right behind him with four grounder balls. Junior goalie Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Portledge) made nine stops on 14 shots while also grabbing three ground balls. As a whole, the Valiants outshot the Aggies 56-31, including 29-14 in shots on goal. Additionally, Manhattanville won the faceoff battle with a slim 10-9 margin.

The squad will return to GoValiants.com Field for its next game – its final home contest of the season – when MAC Freedom foe FDU-Florham comes to Purchase for a 7:00 p.m. game next Wednesday, April 24.
