Feinstein's Walkoff Home Run Clinches Senior Day Doubleheader Sweep and MAC Freedom Tournament Berth

PURCHASE, NY – Friday April 18 was Good indeed for the Manhattanville College baseball team as the Valiants earned a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Tournament berth with a doubleheader sweep over the FDU-Florham Devils, winning the opener 7-3 before a dramatic, come-from-behind, extra inning walkoff win, 9-7, in game two.

Freshman Tyler Viscusi (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) tossed his second straight complete game for Manhattanville (20-13, 12-6 MACF) in game one, striking out six Devils. Sophomore jack Matero went 2-for-3 with a run scored three RBI's and junior Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI's; junior Stephen Merrill (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) also launched his fourth home run of the year for the Valiants.

Freshman Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) went 3-for-5 in the second game with two runs, Lynch went 2-for-5 with two runs, junior Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and freshman Zachary Feinstein (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) launched a three-run walkoff homer. Sophomore Luke Shaffer (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) threw four shutout innings, allowing just four hits, striking out four.

For FDU-Florham (11-23, 4-14 MACF), Matt Nodaro went 3-for-9 with three runs and an RBI across the two games.

GAME ONE: FDU-Florham carried a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth as Kyle Nepton held Manhattanville to just two walks and two singles through four innings. Merrill sent an 0-1 offering over the left field fence with one out in the Manhattanville fifth, halving FDU-Florham's lead.

After senior Kieran Corrigan (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) singled and advanced to second on a groundout, Matero tied the game with a single to center, advancing to second on the throw home. Quatrochi followed with a single to center, scoring Matero for a 3-2 Manhattanville lead.

FDU-Florham tied the game in the top of the sixth, but a two-run single by Lynch and two-run double by Matero put the Valiants up 7-3. Viscusi fed off the big sixth, retiring the side 1-2-3 in the seventh to end the game.

GAME TWO: The Valiants led 6-2 in the top of the seventh, but the Devils rallied to tie the game, the big blow coming via a three-run double from Hakim Hamer. The Devils pushed a run across in te top of the eighth to take a 7-6 lead.

With one out in the Manhattanville eighth, Quatrochi singled and Scoggins walked, moving the tying run into scoring position. Feinstein -- pinch-hitting and three days removed from a 4-for-5, seven RBI day against Lehman on Tuesday – launched a no-doubt shot to right field, sending off a mob scene from the Valiant dugout and faithful in attendance.

Between games one and two, the program's seven graduating seniors: Scoggins, Corrigan, Tom Gilmartin (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees), Francisco Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), Michael Poggioreale (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake), Rami Masani (Westbury, N.Y./W.T. Clarke) and Matt Coleman (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) – were honored for their contributions to the team.

The Valiants' home-stand continues Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game against the John Jay College Bloodhounds.
