KINGSTON, Pa. — In their final match of the regular season, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team fell 9-0 to Wilkes University Sunday, April 28 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play at the Wyoming Valley Indoor Center.
The top-seeded Colonels (13-4, 7-0 MACF) were strong throughout the day, with Manhattanville (5-6, 4-3 MACF) freshmen
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Samantha Altman (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) falling 8-0 in first doubles, followed by an 8-0 loss for junior
Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) and senior
Stephanie Stumm (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) in second doubles. The team of freshman
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and senior
Ariel Abdul-Mateen (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School for Medical Professions) dropped their third doubles matchup by the same score, giving Wilkes a 3-0 lead after doubles play.
In first singles, Charley could not pick up the win, falling 6-1, 6-4. Lovejoy dropped her second singles matchup by a 6-0, 6-1 score, and both Altman and Ulzheimer fell 6-0, 6-0 in third and fourth singles play, respectively. Abdul-Mateen and Stumm fell by the same 6-0, 6-0 score, giving Wilkes a 9-0 victory on the day.
The Valiants finished their first season since reinstatement with a 4-3 record in MAC Freedom play, good for fourth in the conference. The team locked up the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, and will face off in a rematch with Wilkes Wednesday, May 1, with the start time TBA.
