WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Following a victory over King's College (Pa.) in their last outing, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to Wilkes University in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play Saturday, April 6.
In first singles, freshman
Alvaro de la Plaza (Malaga, Spain/Homeschooled (Laurel Springs, Calif.)) fell in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). Sophomore
Jan Senkerik (Zlin, Czech Republic/The Hill Academy) followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 loss in second singles, but junior
Alex Fleischman (Riverside, Conn./King)Â got the Valiants in the win column with a three-set victory (4-6, 6-1, 10-7).
Manhattanville was not able to capitalize the rest of the way though, as freshman
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision, followed by freshman
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) falling in straight sets as well (6-1, 6-3). Sophomore
Maguire Balke (Yardville, N.J./Steinert) finished up singles action with a 7-6, 6-1 loss.
In first doubles action, the team of Senkerik and de la Plaza fell just short of a victory for the Valiants by an 8-7 score. Schlapak and Fleischman dropped an 8-5 decision in second doubles, followed by a third doubles loss by Bakle and Crowley by a score of 8-3.
The Valiants look to get back in the win column when they continue MAC Freedom play vs. Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Wednesday, April 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.
