PURCHASE, NY – The Manhattanville College baseball team dropped its final game of the 2019 regular season 17-3 to the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors Wednesday May 1 in a final tune-up before the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Tournament.

27 Valiants made appearances during the game, including eight pitchers, all of whom threw fewer than two innings. Freshman Johnny Mariano (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, junior Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, freshman Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) went 1-for-2 with a run, and senior Matt Coleman (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) went 1-for-3 with a run for Manhattanville (23-16).

For Eastern Connecticut State (20-16), Owen Marica went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI's, Luke Broadhurst went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, and John Mesagno scored three RBI's and two runs scored.

Down 3-0 after an inning and a half, singles by Mariano and sophomore Matthew Careccia (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) set up Lynch, who doubled home Mariano. In the third, Mariano singled home Quatrochi, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

The Warriors added sixth in the fourth and four in the fifth, opening a 13-2 lead. The Valiants added a run in the sixth, but the Warriors responded with four more in the top of the seventh for the final runs of the game.

The 2019 MAC Freedom Tournament commences this Friday May 3 from West Lawn, PA. The second-seeded Valiants open tournament play at 7 p.m. against the third-seeded DeSales University Bulldogs. The Valiants took two out of three from the Bulldogs last weekend to earn the tournament's two seed.

The winner of that game will play the winner of Friday afternoon's game between the top-seeded Misericordia University Cougars and the fourth-seeded King's College Monarchs on Saturday. The winner of the MAC Freedom Tournament will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA D-III Tournament.
