Box Score WEST LAWN, PA – The second-seeded Manhattanville College baseball team dropped its first game of the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom Tournament against the third-seeded DeSales University Bulldogs, falling by a score of 7-2.
Freshman Anthony Quatrochi (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) had two hits, a run and an RBI and sophomore Hathaway Roper (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) had two hits and a run for Manhattanville (23-17). Junior Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) added a hit and an RBI for the Valiants. For DeSales (22-17), Michael White had three hits and six different Bulldogs had at least one hit and one run.
The Bulldogs put the first two batters of the game on in the top of the first, with each eventually driven in on a pair of groundouts. The Valiants put runners on in the first and third, but came away empty each time. DeSales added a third run in the fourth following a double, then a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt.
Manhattanville got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Iannarilli in the bottom of the fourth. The Bulldogs put three more on the board in the top of the sixth, knocking Ciuffetelli out after 5.2 innings. The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the ninth while Austin Kroger allowed just one hit while striking out four over the final three innings.
The Valiants will play the King's College Monarchs at 3 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday May 4, in an elimination game. The Valiants took two of three from the Monarchs during the year in their MAC Freedom series. Check out govaliants.com/live for live stats and video of the game.
