PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College men's soccer team secured a 2-1 victory in its first game of the season in a two-overtime thriller against The Sage Colleges, Friday, Aug 30, at home on GoValiants.com Field.
Manhattanville (1-0) controlled play for most of the first half and recorded 10 shots to Sage's (0-1) four. Despite the Valiants strong play, the game remained tied for most of the first half until junior forward
Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) found the back of the net off of a pass from junior midfielder
Xavier Cruzata (Pasadena, Calif./Cathedral) in the 38th minute.
In the second half, Sage came out swinging and in the 57th minute the Gators' Kevin Winglosky found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. The two teams continued to battle late into the game and Manhattanville's freshman goalkeeper
Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) made four saves in the second half to keep the Valiants in the contest. Neither team could break the tie in regulation and the teams would need overtime to decide a winner.
The first overtime period was uneventful. Neither team could muster any serious goal scoring chances and the 10 minutes passed quickly. When the second overtime period began the intensity ramped up for each team. The stalemate would be broken when junior midfielder
Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil) found the back of the net off of an assist from freshman defender
Nico Villazon (Mexico City, Mexico/Nido de Aguilas) in the 108th to end the game and secure a victory for the Crimson and White.
Manhattanville will return to the field next on Wednesday, Sept. 4, for a matchup against Vassar College. Kick off is set for 7:00 p.m. on GoValiants.com Field.
