NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team added another win to their record on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Valiants secured a dominating 7-1 win over Albertus Magnus College.
Manhattanville (4-1) controlled most of the game but conquered the field in the first quarter. The first goal was scored by junior
Lexi Crites (Middleboro, Mass./Kents Hill School), assisted by junior
Arnise King (Wilmington, Del./Concord). This goal gave the Valiants an offensive momentum that could not be stopped. A few minutes later Crites lined up to take a penalty corner. She passed it to senior
Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) who snuck her shot past Albertus Magnus (0-3) goalie Mikayla Lyston for a 2-0 lead. An additional corner was called one minute later, Crites took the corner again. She passed it to senior
Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) who then passed it off to Thomas and she drove the ball towards goal. Crites was as able to tap the ball in for her second goal of the day.
Joining in on the action in the second, King took a shot and added another point to the Valiants score. This was King's first goal of the season. Later in the third a similar successful corner play emerged. Sophomore
Ava Lantiere (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) passed it to Boot who again passed it to Thomas and she put the ball on net, where freshman
Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) was able to knock it in. This put the Valiants ahead 5-0 going into the fourth quarter.
Sophomore defender
Raquel Brown (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) also got in on the offensive action when she received a pass from Crites and put her shot past Lyston. Rebutting the Valiants, Albertus Magnus' Morgan Shura took the last shot for the Falcons finding the back of the net to make score 6-1.
Only three minutes later Crites responded with a third goal, ending the game with a hat trick and one assist. The Valiants out shot the Falcons 27-2, not giving up a single penalty corner but taking 12 themselves and scoring four goals off them.
The Valiants will continue to play on the road this weekend at the William Smith College Classic in Geneva, N.Y. They will play Saturday, Sept. 14, against the hosting Herons at 10:30 a.m. and again on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. against St. Lawrence University.
