Volleyball Wins Second Straight as Vital Notches Triple-Double

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team dominated from start to finish Thursday night, Sept. 12, as the Valiants defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth 3-0 (25-6, 25-20, 25-20) at Kennedy Gymnasium for their second straight victory – both of which came in straight sets.

Manhattanville (4-4) was led by rookie setter Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Perpetuo Socorro) all night long as the freshman finished with a triple-double against the Eagles (2-3). Vital led all players in assists (23), digs (15) and service aces (11), the last of which was the most by any Valiant player in a single match since Aug. 31, 2013 and ties her for fourth-most in program history.

After an extremely one-sided first set by the Valiants, in which they took the 1-0 lead following a 19-point set win, the second and third games were much closer. Despite that, senior hitter Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) and the rest of the Valiants were able to maintain their lead and come away with the match victory to improve to .500 once again on the season. Brauer led all players with match-best 10 kills on 27 swings.

Sophomore middle Emma Dronzek (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart) also had several big points for Manhattanville as well, including her fifth on the night to clinch the match as the 25th Valiant point in the third set. Overall, 13 players saw time on the court for the Valiants throughout the match. Rookie Felicity Hoffert (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) had a good night as well and finished with seven kills on 20 swings.

Following nearly a week off, the Valiants will return to action Wednesday night, Sept. 18, for a road non-conference match at Lehman College in the Bronx, with first-serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Manhattanville has won three straight over the Lightning and hold the 17-8 all-time edge.
