Men's Soccer Cruises in Shutout Win Over Lehman

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Lehman College, Wednesday, Sept. 18 at home on GoValiants.com field.

The Valiants (3-2-1) controlled play throughout the game. The first half was scoreless but Manhattanville asserted themselves well and recorded eight shots to Lehman's (5-2) one. The team was unable to put the ball in the back of the net in the first half, but kept Lehman's defense on its toes and did not allow a single shot on goal.

The Crimson and White continued their strong play in the second half and finally broke through with a goal from sophomore midfielder Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) in the 51st minute, assisted by junior midfielder Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil) and freshman midfielder Michael Mezzina (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic). Diaz struck again in the 57th minute for his second goal of the game and this time was assisted by sophomore midfielder Kendall Davis (Bound Brook, N.J./Immaculata). Diaz would finish with four shots on goal, seven shots total and two goals.

Manhattanville kept the pressure on despite the two-goal lead and in the 85th minute they tallied one more goal when junior forward Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) found the back of the net off an assist from Bravo Olle. The Valiants three-goal lead would stand until the end and the team secured the 3-0 win for its second straight victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) earned his first-career shutout in the win and the Valiant defense did their part in the effort and allowed only one shot on goal all night for Siwiec to deal with. It was a hard-fought win for Manhattanville in its last non-conference matchup of regular season play.

The Crimson and White return to action again on Sunday, Sept. 22, against Yeshiva University. The game is on the road at Votee Park in Teaneck, N.J., and has an 8:15 p.m. start.
