PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's tennis team fell to SUNY Oneonta by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at home on the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.
The Valiants' (0-1) lone win came from senior Alex Fleischman (Riverside, Conn./King) at the fourth singles spot. Fleischman defeated Oneonta's (1-0) Riley Smith by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. The only other match to reach a tiebreaker was second singles. Junior Jan Senkerik (Zlin, Czech Republic/The Hill Academy) fell to Dalton Capobianco by a score of 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.
The rest of the singles matches were decided in straight sets. At first singles, senior Juan Huertas (Bogotá, Colombia/La Salle (H.S.) (Calif.)) lost to Marco Ammirati by a score of 7-6, 6-4. At third singles, graduate student Soya Goto (Rye, N.Y./Rye) fell by a score of 6-3, 7-5 to Jacob Dornsife and at fifth singles, sophomore Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) dropped his match to Alexander Reiley, 6-4, 6-0. Sophomore Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) fell by a score of 6-4, 6-1 at the sixth singles position.
In doubles play, Manhattanville was unable to steal a match. The first doubles team of Huertas and Senkerik lost to Smith and Ammirati by a score of 8-6. At second doubles, Goto and Crowley fell to Dornsife and Matthew Reinhold, 8-7 (4-0) and at third doubles, Fleischman and Schlapak were bested by Capobianco and Ben Cohen, 8-2.
The Valiants return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22, against The Sage Colleges at home on the Manhattanville Tennis Courts starting at 1:00 p.m.
