NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's tennis team earned their first win of the season in a Skyline Conference match against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Valiants defeated the Knights by a score of 5-4 in their second conference match of the season. The team secured three singles wins and two doubles wins to take the victory over Mount St. Mary (2-4, 1-1 Skyline). Manhattanville's (1-3, 1-1 Skyline) singles victories came at the first, second and third spots. At first singles, sophomore Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) won by a score of 6-2, 6-2. At second singles, senior Sunny Tonneson won by a score of 6-0, 6-1 and at third singles senior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
In the doubles matches, the Crimson and White took both the first and second spots. At first doubles, Charley and Lovejoy won by a score of 8-4 and at second doubles Tonnesen and sophomore Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) secured an 8-3 victory.
The win was the Valiants first overall win of the season as well as their first Skyline win of the season. The team returns to action at 5:00 P.M on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 2, against Saint Joseph's College-Long Island for another Skyline Conference matchup.
