Women’s Volleyball Picks Up 3-0 Win over Sarah Lawrence in Skyline Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team picked up a three-set (25-7, 25-20, 25-13) victory to open Skyline Conference play on Tuesday night, Sept. 24, over Sarah Lawrence College at Kennedy Gymnasium.

The Valiants (9-4, 1-0 Skyline) dominated every facet of the match against the Gryphons (7-4, 1-1 Skyline). They out-hit Sarah Lawrence .206 to -.059 and totaled 25 more kills than the visitors (35-10). Additionally, seven Valiants combined for a total of 15 service aces, led by four apiece from rookie libero Geena Torres (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) and senior outside hitter Austen Brauer (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings).

Brauer – fresh off her Skyline Player of the Week honor earlier today – finished with six kills on 12 swings (.333 hitting percentage) and a pair of digs to go with her aces. Sophomore outside hitter Alejandra Figueroa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Rosa-Bell) registered a match-high-tying eight kills to go with seven digs and an assisted block, while freshman right-side hitter Felicity Hoffert (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) totaled eight kills as well and added six digs and a pair of aces.

Freshman setter Vianca Vital (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Perpetuo Socorro) had another solid match as she led all players in assists (26) and digs (18) for her fourth straight double-double and ninth of the season – she added a pair of aces and three kills as well. Torres – the reigning Skyline Libero of the Week – finished with 12 digs and four assists to go with her match-best-tying ace total.

Manhattanville is now riding a seven-match winning streak, taking five of those victories in straight sets, and will return to the court this Thursday night, Sept. 26, for another home Skyline contest. The Valiants will host Yeshiva University in Kennedy at 7:00 p.m.
