Men's Soccer Battles to a Tie Against Mount St. Mary

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville men's soccer team battled to an intense 2-2 tie against Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at home on GoValiants.com Field. The game between the two top-ranked teams in the Skyline preseason poll did not disappoint. The two-overtime thriller entertained throughout and both teams fought hard.

The Valiants jumped out to an early one-goal lead in the seventh minute when junior forward Fabori Conde (Conakry, Guinea/Seventy-First) put a shot from inside the box into the back of the net off assists from freshman defender Gabe Jefferies (Tunbridge Wells, U.K./Ridge (N.J.)) and junior midfielder Pablo Bravo Olle (Barcelona, Spain/LFG Bon Soleil). Manhattanville (4-2-2, 1-0-1 Skyline) held it's one-goal advantage until the end of the first half.

The action began to pick up midway through the second half. The Valiants earned a penalty kick in the 67th minute and junior defender Marius Nicolaysen (Oslo, Norway/Kongshavn VGS) buried it to put his team up 2-0. Mount St. Mary (4-4-1, 1-0-1 Skyline) responded less than a minute later when the Knights' Connor Doyle tallied a goal in the 68th minute to cut Manhattanville's lead to just one. Moments later Doyle would strike again and in the 73rd minute the game was tied 2-2.

The intensity would only increase from there. In the 82nd minute an altercation that saw both benches enter the field resulted in red cards for freshman midfielder Trevor Henderson (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Mount St. Mary's Ismael Bravo. Both teams would finish the contest with 10 men apiece and four more yellow cards would be handed out before the end of the second overtime, two for each team.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the two overtime periods. The Valiants controlled most of the overtime play but could not make their way past the Mount St. Mary defense. When the game ended Manhattanville settled with their second tie of the season. It was the third Manhattanville game to go into two overtimes this season and the fourth overtime game overall.

The Crimson and White return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28, for another Skyline Conference matchup at home on GoValiants.com Field starting at 4:00 P.M.
