Men's Soccer Defeats Old Westbury, Remains Unbeaten in Skyline-Play

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College men's soccer team defeated Skyline opponent College at Old Westbury by a score of 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Valiants are unbeaten in their last five contests and have yet to lose a conference game.

Manhattanville (5-2-2, 2-0-1 Skyline) and Old Westbury (3-5-1, 1-2 Skyline) went back and forth to start the first half of play. The game took a turn in the 27th minute when Old Westbury's Cristian Garay was given a red card after a hard foul against the Valiants. The Panthers were forced to play a man down for the rest of the game.

Five minutes after the card was shown, Manhattanville sophomore midfielder Nico Diaz (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) put the ball into the back of the net off an assist from freshman forward Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) who cut the ball back across the face of the goal. The Valiants would take their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The second half saw only one more goal for Manhattanville. Old Westbury packed it in defensively and despite having a man advantage, the Valiants could only make their way past the opposing goalkeeper one more time. The second goal came in the 52nd minute when Pardo scored a goal very similar to the first goal of the evening. Diaz and junior midfielder Alex Juma (Harlem, N.Y./NYC iSchool) tallied assists on the play. Freshman goalkeeper Patryk Siwiec (Queens, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) recorded his second shutout of the season and recorded three saves on the day.

The Crimson and White will return to action again on Saturday, Oct. 5. The team hits the road to take on Skyline opponent, St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 2:30 P.M.
