PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team dropped a tough matchup tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home to Purchase College by a score of 96-74. The Panthers shot extremely efficiently in the first half and took a large lead into the break. The Valiants were able to battle back and outscore Purchase 49-42 in the second but were unable to surmount the difference in the Skyline Conference loss.

JoJo Cobbs (Elmsford, N.Y./Briarcliff) and junior
Mike Granda (Monroe Township, N.J./St. Joseph) once again led the way for the Crimson and White, finishing with 21 and 12 points, respectively. Cobbs, three days removed from his 1,000th career point milestone, was 50.0 percent from the floor on the night (10-of-20), while Granda was 4-of-6 from three-point range in the second half.
Several other Valiants had strong performances off the bench against the Panthers (7-5, 2-1 Skyline), headlined by junior
Wesley Kra (Queens, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy Memorial). The College of New Rochelle transfer had his best game in the Crimson and White, scoring eight points on 4-of-5 from the floor, adding a pair of rebounds, a block and a steal. Senior
Cory Madden (Woodside, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy Memorial) also finished with six points in a season-high 16 minutes, while rookie big man
Jackson Leech (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) also chipped in six points.
Highlights:
- Sophomore Petey Galgano (New Rochelle, N.Y./Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.)) finished with seven points, team highs in assists (6) and rebounds (5) and a game-best three steals.
- Sophomore Chris Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) saw a career-high 13 minutes off the bench for the Valiants. He registered four points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Freshman Ryan Giordano (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) came off the bench for 10 minutes and finished with four points, two rebounds and a block.
Looking to return to their winning ways, the Valiants will next travel to Throggs Neck, N.Y., on Thursday night, Jan. 16, for a 7:00 p.m. Skyline meeting with Maritime College. Manhattanville owns the 32-8 all-time advantage over the Privateers, last defeating them 110-73 in the 2018-19 season opener.
