Pemberton Earns Double–Double and Valiants Dish Out 28 Assists in Home Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team is back on top after they doubled St. Joseph's College-Long Island today, Jan. 28. The Valiants had three players score double-digits and totaled 28 assists as they took down the Golden Eagles 90-42.

Junior Amanda Pemberton (Las Vegas, Nev./Liberty) earned her second double-double of the season after totaling 10 points and rebounds. She secured six of her 10 rebounds in the third quarter. Four of the six were offensive and two rebounds were converted into second chance baskets. She shot .416 from the field scoring four points in the first and second quarter and a bucket in the third. She also contributed four assists and added one steal and block to her statistics.

The Valiants (15-2, 11-2) and Golden Eagles (4-13,2-10) were neck and neck throughout the first until Pemberton hit a jump shot to take away a three-point lead. Following Pemberton's bucket, freshman Jamie Smith (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) made a layup and junior Spencer Shore (Boca Raton, Fla./West Boca Raton) hit a three to close the first at 26-18.

Manhattanville took 17 shots as St. Joe's attempted 16 from the field in the second. Although the shot count was very similar the Valiants made 52.9% of their shots as the Golden Eagles shot 18.8%. Manhattanville held them to three made shots throughout the entire quarter. The Crimson and White shot 50.0% from the three-point line after Shore hit two of her three takes. Manhattanville had 15 rebounds in the second quarter and sophomore Faith Johnson-Desilvia (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) was able to make one second chance basket. She grabbed the offensive rebound and then sunk a layup. Johnson-Desilvia added another point to the board after she was fouled on the shot and made her free-throw.

The Valiants started the second half ahead 48-25 but freshman Madison Fields (Grantsville, Utah/Grantsville) quickly upped the score by two after Johnson-Desilvia set her up for a layup. Junior Sarah Coutu (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) made three steals in the third and she converted one into a made layup. Freshman Julia Torreso (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) and Shore also made a steal each. After Shore stole the ball she pushed the ball up to Coutu who assisted freshman Olivia Kelley (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) on a breakaway layup.

Freshman Carmen Rosemond (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) shot .667 from the field and made both of her baskets in the third. Torreso also made two baskets in the third; she ended the night shooting .500 from the field. She hit the final shot of the quarter with one second remaining to make the score 77-28.

Four different Valiants put up points up in the fourth. Junior Karina Cruz (Kissimmee, Fla./Poinciana) was an asset as she totaled six points and two assists. Other Valiants that upped the score was freshman Alana Anderson (Wellington, Fla./Palm Beach Central) with a three-pointer on top of freshman Cierra Simmons (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) and freshman Azurae Taylor (Orlando, Fla./Windermere) with a layup each.
