Box Score BRUNSWICK, MAINE – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team battled to a 2-2 tie against Bowdoin College, despite holding a 2-0 lead as they entered the third. The Valiants continue to search for their first win since returning from a month-long break.
Manhattanville (6-4-2, 5-0 UCHC) saw their lead cut in half early in the third period. Bowdoin (4-4-2, 2-2 NESCAC) tallied a goal 4:05 into the period. The Polar Bears followed up that goal with another one just five minutes later to even the game at two goals apiece. That score line held until the end of regulation and the teams entered overtime.
The five-minute overtime period saw no goals. The Valiants were unable to capitalize on a power play opportunity late in overtime and the game ended with no winner being decided. That power play was the only one the team was unable to convert as Manhattanville was two for three on the power play in the game.
The story of the game was freshman goalie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep). The Valiants were managed just 17 total shots, but Flores kept the team in the game making 38 saves on 40 shots from the Polar Bears. Also making an impact for Manhattanville was senior defender Ali Howard (Rye, N.Y./Rye), who scored for the second-straight game, and sophomore defender Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy), who scored her second goal of the season.
Manhattanville will look to notch a win against Wesleyan University on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Valiants hit the road for a non-conference matchup in Middletown, Conn. Puck drop is set for 4:00 P.M.
