RYE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's hockey team defeated United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) opponent Lebanon Valley College by a score of 7-1, Friday, Feb. 21. The home win was the team's fourth in a row. Six different Valiants scored in the victory and nine different Valiants recorded a point.
Lebanon Valley (5-17-1, 5-11-1 UCHC) found the back of the net first just two and a half minutes into the game. The goal was its only of the game as Manhattanville (14-7-3, 12-2-1 UCHC) quickly answered with goals of their own. Six minutes later, junior forward Adelle Clark (Lantzville, B.C./Ontario Hockey Academy) broke through for the Valiants and put her own rebound into the back of the net to tie the game at one. With five minutes left in the first, sophomore defender Laney Nash (Edmonds, Wash./Washington Wild (PNAHA)) found the back of net, scoring the first goal of her career and giving her team a 2-1 lead headed into the first intermission.
Manhattanville only scored once in the second period. Junior forward Taylor Lopes tucked the puck into the top left corner off a pass from senior Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride (JWHL)) to extend the lead to 3-1 on the power play. The Valiants then began to pour it on in the third period and scored four more times before the end of the game. Junior forward Taylor Ham (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) scored twice, with her first coming from a skilled individual effort as she weaved past defenders and slipped the puck into the back of the net. Junior forward Ashley DeFusco (Cranston, R.I./La Salle Academy) and sophomore forward Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional) each tallied a goal in the period as well, bringing the final score to 7-1.
Freshman goalie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep) and Senior goalie Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Man./Canadian International Hockey Academy) split time in the net for the Valiants. Elias entered early in the third period and made an impressive 10 saves, despite a lower-body injury that had kept her sidelined the past few weeks.
Manhattanville returns to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22. The team will honor its eight graduating seniors before what will be their final regular season home game. Puck drop is set for 3:00 P.M. at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y.
