Manhattanville Women's Soccer Scores Season-High 12 Goals in Win Over Yeshiva

PURCHASE, N.Y. –  The Manhattanville College women's soccer team erupted for a season-high 12 goals on Tuesday evening, earning a shutout win over Yeshiva University for their fourth-straight win. The Valiants improve to 7-2-2 overall, 5-0-1 in conference play, and have still not allowed a goal in Skyline Conference play.

Twelve different Valiants recorded a shot on goal, with the team's 69 total shots being the highest in a single game in at least 15 years. Manhattanville had ten different players score a goal, led by Veronica Lage's (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) first career hat trick.

It took a minute and a half for the Valiants to get on the board, with Lage finishing Kelly Barrera's (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) pass for her first of the night. After Alexa Devlin (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex Regional) scored in the 7th minute with the first goal of her career, Barrera collected a goal of her own a minute later, beating Yeshiva's Sophie Dubin to the lower left corner to put the Vals up three.

Lage would strike again in the 16th minute, collecting her own rebound and scoring. The Valiants would be held in check until the 34th minute, when Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) showed off her speed and footwork to split the Maccabee defense and fire one home. Three minutes later, Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) found her way into the scoresheet after sneaking a shot into the lower right corner of the net. Lage would then close out the half with the trifecta, after Skyla Marrone's (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) blocked shot bounced right to her in front of the net.

The second half featured five different Valiants scoring the first goals of their collegiate careers. Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), usually known for making plays between the posts, came in for the second half and scored in the 47th minute. Alexa Fasce (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville High School) would add the first of her career 46 seconds later, while her rookie teammates Caitlin Ward (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown High School) and Jessica Wielgus (New York City, NY/Frank McCourt High School) went on to score in the 62nd and 77th minutes. Skyla Marrone (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) would put the finishing touches on the night with her first goal in the 84th minute.

Steph Shalhoub (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) got the start in net, playing the full 90 minutes without seeing a shot come her way. It was the second time in three games the Valiants held their opponents without a shot on goal, and the first time since the 2019 meeting between these two teams that Manhattanville prevented the opposition from any shot attempts. The Crimson and White have gone six straight contests without surrendering a goal.

Up Next
The Valiants now turn their attention towards the weekend where a meeting with Farmingdale State awaits. The last two teams in the Skyline Conference without a loss in conference play will square off at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
