PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a clash of the two last undefeated teams in Skyline Conference play, the Manhattanville College women's soccer team was bested by Farmingdale State College 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Valiants and is the team's first loss in six games.
After scoring 25 goals in their last three games, the Valiants were locked in a defensive affair on Saturday afternoon with the Rams. Both teams were held scoreless in regulation, although the Rams were able to generate the majority of the offensive chances, especially in the second half. Farmingdale held a 20-4 shot advantage in the contest, and fired nine shots on net compared to three for the Valiants.
The multitude of chances ended up paying off for the Rams three minutes into the overtime period, as Jazzmin Terrell was able to shoot the ball past a diving
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) to the lower left side of the net to give Farmingdale the win. The goal was the first allowed by Manhattanville since Sept. 18, and ends Pyatsky's scoreless streak at 488 minutes. The senior goalkeeper made a season-high eight saves in the loss.
Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy),
Brigid Sullivan (Vienna, Va./Paul VI Catholic), and
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) each had a shot on goal in the contest, but were unable to get one past Farmingdale's Chloe Kensell.
