PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team wrapped up their regular season on Thursday afternoon, earning a 4-2 win over Skyline Conference foe Yeshiva University. The Valiants finish the schedule with an overall record of 4-5 and a 2-4 mark in conference play.
Prior to the start of the match, the team honored their two senior members,
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey), as part of Senior Day festivities. The senior duo, the first four-year graduates of the tennis program since it's return in 2018, closed out the regular season by leading the Valiants to a win on their home courts.
The Valiants began the contest by claiming wins in both doubles matches. The senior duo of Charley and Ulzheimer teamed up to earn an 8-5 victory over Elisheva Gofman and Esther Ackerman in No. 1 Doubles. Over on Doubles No. 2,
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep)Â and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) earned an 8-0 win over the Yeshiva duo of Liana Friedman and Naomi Feinberg. Neither team had enough players to field a team for the No. 3 Doubles, giving the Valiants a 2-0 lead heading into the singles draws.
Manhattanville took two of three of the completed singles matches. Pretnar was victorious in the second singles flight, besting Gofman 6-1, 6-0. Ulzheimer closed out her Senior Day with a win as well, defeating Anna Elfassy 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 Singles. Brown was bested by Yeshiva's Friedman in the fourth flight, while the Maccabees were awarded the point from No. 5 singles by default. Charley and Ackerman had a great duel in No. 1 Singles, with the Manhattanville senior taking the first set 7-6 (7-5), before the match was called due to darkness with the two tied at one game apiece in the second.
