HENNIKER, N.H. – Playing their second game of the weekend in the Granite State, the Manhattanville College field hockey team dropped a neutral site contest to the University of Maine-Farmington on Sunday by a final of 3-1. Manhattanville falls to 1-15 on the season and 0-7 against the NECC.
The Beavers completed the sweep of the two-game regular season series off of a two goal effort from Alex Bessey. The UMaine-Farmington senior scored 53 seconds into the game to give the Beavers an early lead, and after Ginny Twitchell scored in the 25
th minute, Bessey added an insurance goal in the 4
th quarter to put the game away.
The lone Valiants score came courtesy of
Kate Buckley (South Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial). The freshman forward notched her fifth goal of the year in the third quarter to pull Manhattanville within one, but the Valiants were unable to find the equalizer before Bessey's second tally closed out the contest.
Abbey Playle (San Jose, CA/Leigh High School) added a pair of shots on goal, while
Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) represented Manhattanville's other scoring chance.
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) had her second-straight game of reaching double figures in saves, stopping 11 of the 14 UMaine-Farmington shots she faced.
