BRISTOL, R.I. – In a game that took 75 minutes to find a winner, the Manhattanville College field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 contest at Roger Williams University on Wednesday night. The Valiants fought hard in their longest game of the season, but ultimately fell to 1-16 on the season in their penultimate game of the year.
It took two extra periods for either team to find the back of the net, but the Hawks would connect five minutes into the second overtime to end the marathon affair. Ella Waryas was able to collect a loose ball off a save to fire home the game winner.
Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) was phenomenal in her longest outing of the year in net for the Valiants. The sophomore goalkeeper made 13 saves, blanking the Hawks for five periods of play. It was the third time this year Morgan reached a double-figure save total and was her second most this season behind the 21 stop effort against Husson on Oct. 2.
The Valiants were held without a shot until the fourth quarter when
Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) fired a shot on net.
Ava Panzer (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) recorded Manhattanville's only other shot attempt, shooting the potential game-winner in the first overtime period that was stopped by Roger Williams keeper Callie Flanagan.
