Manhattanville Field Hockey Upended by Husson

BANGOR, Maine – Despite an incredible performance by Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) in net, the Manhattanville College field hockey team was unable to overcome the 36 shots thrown their way on Saturday, falling to Husson University, 2-1.  The loss drops Manhattanville to 0-10 (0-3 NECC) on the year.

The sophomore Morgan did everything she could to keep the Valiants in the game all day long, making a career-high 21 saves. Morgan faced 12 shots in the first quarter alone, and the Eagles were able to finally wear down the Valiant goalkeeper in the 9th minute on a shot by Julia Murch.

Despite the constant barrage of Husson attacks, the Valiants hung strong, keeping the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter and heading into the half only trailing by one. The strong play by Morgan and the defense allowed the Valiants to even up the score in the 36th minute. Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) took a penalty corner and was able to connect a pass to Meghan Gunther (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison), setting up her first collegiate goal.

Unfortunately, the Eagles offense continued to chip away at Manhattanville's backline, ultimately leading to Teagan Blackie burying Adells Foss' pass in the 42nd minute to give Husson the 2-1 lead. The Valiants would only get one more shot on goal in the fourth quarter, unable to tie the game up again and dropping the road contest.
