Manhattanville Women's Soccer Blanks Mount Saint Vincent, 2-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. – A pair of first half goals proved to be all that was needed on Saturday afternoon for the Manhattanville College women's soccer team, as the Valiants used the pair of tallies to earn a 2-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The win moves Manhattanville's record to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.

It was Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) that got the Valiants on the board first, as the freshman collected a pass from Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) to record her fifth goal of the season in the 23rd minute.

Hayes would be involved again towards the tailend of the half, finding Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) in front of the net to set up the second Manhattanville goal. The score was Xiong's fourth of the campaign, while Hayes brought her team-leading assist total to six with the pair of helpers.

The Valiants kept sustained pressure on the Dolphins' side of the field through the opening 45, registering 13 shots in the half. While the second half showed more defensive play by the Crimson and White, the two goal cushion was enough to keep Mount Saint Vincent at bay to close out the match.

Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) collected her second-consecutive clean sheet, coming off of last Saturday's double overtime draw against Mont Saint Mary. The senior goalkeeper made a season-high six saves en route to her fourth win of the year. Pyatsky has now not allowed a goal in her last 245 minutes in net, and continues to drop her goals-against average, which now sits at 1.40.
