BROOKLYN, N.Y. – It was a night where the offense was on full display as the Manhattanville College women's soccer team recorded a season-high 47 shots as the Valiants picked up a 5-0 win over Saint Joseph's College (Brooklyn) on Tuesday. The Valiants improve to 5-2-2 on the season and are now 3-0-1 in Skyline Conference matchups. Manhattanville has now outscored their conference opponents 16-0 in four matches.
Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) and
Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) tested the Bears defense all night long, combining for 25 of the Valiants' shot attempts. The junior Aracena had 15 shots, six on goal, and ended the night with a goal and a pair of assists. Senior Hayes, meanwhile, logged 10 shots of her own, and scored on one of her two attempts on goal.
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School),
Brigid Sullivan (Vienna, Va./Paul VI Catholic), and
Margaret Gocha (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) each scored in the contest, while nine different Valiants had a shot on goal. Sullivan and
Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke) both had an assist in the offensive eruption.
The Valiants found paydirt on their first shot attempt of the evening, with Aracena burying Sullivan's feed four and a half minutes into the contest. Manhattanville would fire 17 more shots off over the following 40 minutes, with Hayes scoring off of Aracena's set up in the 37
th minute.
Manhattanville would come out in the second even more aggressive with 29 shots while holding the Bears without a single attempt. Over an eight minute span, Sullivan, Gocha and Barrera would fire shots past the Bears' Sierra Bedrin to wrap up the victory.
Coming off her Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week recognition earlier in the day,
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) did not face a shot on goal in the contest, dropping her season goals-against average to 1.23 and extending her shutout streak to 335 minutes. The Bears' lone shot attempt went wide right of the net in the 27
th minute as the Valiants controlled the ball all night. Tuesday was the first time since Sept. 20, 2019 that Manhattanville held an opponent to zero shots on goal.
