THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team continued their success against Skyline Conference opponents on Saturday with an 8-0 win over Maritime College. The victory improves the Valiants' conference record to 4-0-1 (6-2-2 overall), with the Crimson and White outscoring their conference foes 24-0 across the five matches.
Six different Valiants were credited with goals in the offensive display, with
Natalie Aracena (Bronx, N.Y./Riverdale Kingsbride Academy) and
Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, NY/Port Chester High School) both having a pair of scores in the contest. The tandem sit first and second on the team in goals scored with nine and eight goals, respectively.
Brigid Sullivan (Vienna, Va./Paul VI Catholic),
Jennifer Xiong (Connelly Springs, N.C./East Burke),
Ashley Hayes (Springfield, Ore./Thurston) and
Lia Pila (Hamburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) each recorded goals of their own.
The Valiants took claim to a 5-0 lead at the half, firmly taking control of the contest. Aracena fired the opening salvo just under 10 minutes in on a shot 25 yards out, while Barrera would score her first of the day 43 seconds later. Hayes joined the fun in the 12
th minute, collecting Xiong's pass from across the field to bury a shot into the left corner of the net.
Xiong collected her second assist of the matchup on Barrera's second tally in the 18
th minute, setting up the ECAC DIII Metro Region Rookie of the Month for a goal from 20 yards away. The Valiants would be held at bay for much of the time remaining in the first, but Sullivan would cap off the five-goal first with her score assisted by Aracena in the 40
th minute.
Aracena would collect her second goal six minutes into the second half, firing a shot that deflected off Maritime keeper Lizzie Pomaro's hand. The Valiants would collect another goal in the 56
th minute as Pila recorded the first score of her collegiate career on Xiong's third assist of the game. The junior midfielder would get into the goal column herself in the 86
th minute, beating Pomaro in a one-on-one opportunity in front of the net to close out the affair.
Over the last two games, the Valiants have allowed just three total shots, with only one going on goal.
Alexa Pyatsky (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) played 60-plus minutes in net before giving way to Stephanie Shalhoub for the final 29 minutes of the contest. The senior goalkeeper made a save on the one shot she faced to extend her shutout streak to 395:35, last surrendering a goal on Sept. 18.
