PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Scoring three goals in a ten-minute span, the Manhattanville College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with their eighth-straight win on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary College. With the win, the Valiants extend their first-place lead in the Skyline Conference standings, now sitting at an overall record of 10-4-2 and a conference record of 9-0-1.
Prior to kickoff, the seven graduating members of the team were honored for their contributions and successes both on and off the pitch.
With the festivities concluded, it would be a junior and a freshman leading the Valiants to victory on a breezy Saturday afternoon. Following 30 minutes of scoreless action, the Knights would be called for a foul inside the penalty area. This would set the stage for Eli Pardo (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon), who has been providing an offensive spark for the Valiants all season long. With only the keeper to beat, Pardo fired a shot past Mount Saint Mary's Zach Decker to the lower left of the goal to put the Valiants ahead.
From there, freshman Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, CT/Brien Mcmahon High School) would add an insurance tally in the 38th minute with his third score of the season. Blanco would get involved once again three minutes later, connecting with Pardo on a pass to set up the junior's team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Manhattanville would continue to pressure the Knights throughout the second half, outshooting Mount Saint Mary 10-4 over the final 45. While the Valiants would be held off the board for the remainder of the night, so too would Mount Saint Mary. Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) collected his seventh shutout of the season with a pair of saves, lowering his goals-against average on the year to 0.53.
