PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team was bested by the Skyline Conference rivals from down the road in Purchase College on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Manhattanville drops to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Valiants and Panthers split the two doubles matches played, with
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) collecting the 8-1 win over Nikita Kordzielewska and Laine Neufeld.
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) put up a good fight over in No. 2 Doubles, but were ultimately bested by Olivia Menchelle and Elaina Coppola, 8-6.
Over in singles competition, Charley and Pretnar were victorious in their individual competitions. Charley earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kordzielewska in the first position, while Pretnar bested Neufeld 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Ulzheimer was edged out by Menchell, 6-4, 2-6, (10-5), while Brown fell to Secrest, 3-6, 4-6. Purchase picked up the remaining points on the afternoon by default.
