NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis team dropped a close Skyline Conference matchup on Thursday night, falling to Mount Saint Mary College by a score of 5-4. The loss drops the Valiants' regular-season record to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Valiants opened up doubles play as they have all season long, as
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) improved their season record in the first doubles position to 5-0. The duo earned an 8-3 win over the Knights' Carly Green and Julia Flynn. Mount Saint Mary would equal the match score as Katie Murray and Victoria Valencia blanked
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and
Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), 8-0. The Knights would take the third doubles position by default, holding a 2-1 advantage entering singles play.
Manhattanville would take three of the four singles matches played. Charley bested Murray 6-0, 6-1, while Pretnar picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Flynn. In third singles, Ulzheimer would defeat Green 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. The Knights would pick up a crucial win in fourth singles, with Grace Monahan picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brown. With Mount Saint Mary taking the remaining singles matches by default, the Knights were able to ultimately take the match.
