PURCHASE, N.Y. – Hosting the first of three straight home matches to close out the regular season, the Manhattanville College women's tennis team was defeated by Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon. The 5-4 loss drops the Valiants to 2-5 on the season and 1-4 against Skyline opponents.

Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Soundview Prep) teamed up as they have all season long in Doubles No. 1, picking up the first Valiant point of the afternoon. The duo earned an 8-3 win over Isabella Hardman and Simi Rao. In the other doubles draw, Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) were defeated by Sasha Conner and Sophie Holmes by an 8-4 final. The Gryphons were awarded the third and final doubles point by default to Bella Biane and Ghiyan Dornelly.

Charley, Pretnar, and Ulzheimer were all victorious in their respective singles draws. Charley picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles over Hardman, while Pretnar collected the victory in No. 2 singles against Rao, 6-4, 6-3. Ulzheimer, meanwhile, bested Conner in the third flight, 6-3, 6-3. The Gryphons were able to nab the win in No. 4 singles, as Brown was bested by Holmes, 0-6, 0-3. With no remaining Valiants on the roster for the two remaining singles matches, Sarah Lawrence took the final two points by default to win the match.
