Manhattanville Field Hockey Picks Up Win Over Sage

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The visitors scored first, but the Valiants scored last and in bunches as the Manhattanville College field hockey team picked up a 6-1 win over Russell Sage College on Wednesday evening. The win gets Manhattanville into the win column, improving to 1-12 on the season.

The Valiants fired 26 shots on goal, snapping a two game streak of being held without a shot on target while surpassing their previous high of the season by 15. Manhattanville also controlled the ball for a majority of the contest, limiting the Gators to just three shots in the game, all in the first half.

Sage would get on the board in their first shot of the day as Alyssa Fitzgerald was able to capitalize on a penalty corner by Shauna Lanoue to fire a shot past Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior). The Valiants made sure the lead was short lived, finding the equalizer 26 seconds later. Brialee Logue (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) connected with her first goal of the season off a pass from Abbey Playle (San Jose, CA/Leigh High School) to knot the game back up at 1-1. One minute later, Playle got into the scoring column herself with her first goal of the year to give the Valiants a 2-1 lead after one.

The Valiants would add three goals in the span of two minutes in the second quarter. Felicity Williams (Glen Falls, N.Y./Glen Falls) finished Playle's second assist of the night in the 25th minute, before setting up Kate Buckley's (South Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) fourth goal of the year 54 second later. Williams would find the back of the net again in the 27th minute with her team-best sixth goal of the year.

Logue would score once again before all was said and done, scoring on Williams' assist in the 50th minute to close out the night.

Playle and Williams combined for 21 shots, 15 of which were on goal as the Valiants tested Gators keeper Abigayle Greier all night. On the other side of the field, Morgan stopped the only other shot she faced in the contest following the opening goal in a full 60 minutes in the cage.
