HERSHEY, Pa. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team earned their first road win on Friday night, defeating conference foe Lebanon Valley College by a final score of 3-2. With the victory, the Valiants moved back to .500 with a 2-2 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the UCHC.
The deciding goal came 13 minutes into the second period. With the score even at 2-2 and the Valiants killing off a roughing penalty charged to
Jamie Dorsey (Wilbraham, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon), Manhattanville was able to push the attack on the other side of the ice as
Mason Emoff (Collingwood, Ont./Bishop's College School) scored a shorthanded goal assisted by
Josh Fletcher (Calgary, Alb./Central Memorial). The junior forward's first goal of the season held as the decider following a scoreless third period.
Emoff would end the night with two points off his game-winning goal and an assist in the first period.
James Gregory (Darien, CT/Darien High School), the Valiants' overtime hero last weekend, opened up the scoring for Manhattanville on the night while
AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) also had a first period tally.
Niko Happo (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School) would be credited with assists on both of Manhattanville's first period goals, while Fletcher and
Connor Boyce (St. Albans, Vt./The Winchendon School) would end the night with an assist each.
The Dutchmen struck first, scoring just over nine minutes into the affair off a shot by Chris Mingus. Four and a half minutes later, the Crimson and White would find the equalizer as Gregory finished a setup from Happo and Emoff. Two minutes later, with the Valiants on the power play, Bella would capitalize on the man advantage off passed from Boyce and Happo to take a 2-1 lead they would carry into the second.
After a scoreless nine and a half minutes into the second period, the Valiants had an opportunity to extended their lead after the Flying Dutchmen's Riley Johnson was sent to the box for high sticking. Lebanon Valley had other plans, however, as Mason Proskin worked his way down the ice shorthanded and tied the game up with a shot past
Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School). Not dissuaded, the Valiants responded a minute and a half later with a shorty of their own, as Emoff put the Valiants back in front for good.
Roy stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third period to preserve the win for Manhattanville. On the night, the junior netminder made a season-high 33 saves between the pipes for the Valiants. The Dutchmen held a 40-28 advantage on the draws on the night, with
Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) leading Manhattanville with 12 faceoff wins. The Valiants were 1-for-4 on power play opportunities while successfully killing off all three of the Flying Dutchmen's man advantages.
