Manhattanville Men's Hockey Scores Five Unanswered to Power Past Arcadia

COLMAR, Pa. – Scoring five unanswered goals, the Manhattanville College Men's Hockey team was victorious in their inaugural meeting with Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon. The 5-1 victory moves the Valiants' record on the year to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in UCHC play.

Manhattanville used five different goal scorers in the contest to pick up the road win, scoring in all three periods. Josh Fletcher (Calgary, Alb./Central Memorial) lit the lamp for the first Valiant goal of the game. After Arcadia scored two minutes after the opening puck drop, the junior forward was able to turn the tables on a Knights power play, scoring shorthanded to bring the score back even. The Valiants have now scored six shorthanded goals through the five games to begin the season.

AJ Bella (Norwalk, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) would score what would prove to be the game winner in the 12th minute. After Arcadia's Justin Song was sent to the penalty box for crosschecking, Alex Rowella (Ridgefield, Conn./Holy Cross (H.S.)) was able to win the ensuing faceoff in the Arcadia zone. The Valiants used a series of quick passes from Niko Happo (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School) and Rowella to find Bella open to fire home the power play goal and put Manhattanville up 2-1.

As part of a 2-for-5 power play game, the Valiants scored another goal with the man advantage to serve as the only score of the second period. The same culprits as the first power play goal were involved once again, this time with Rowella serving as the goal scorer to put the visiting squad up by two.

The Valiants would net a pair of insurance goals in the third. Dylan Pollak (New Fairfield, Conn./South Kent School) finished a feed from Nick Prestia (Niagara Falls, Ont./Salisbury School) in minute 48, while Glynn Robitaille (Northville, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) would score his first of the year with five and a half minutes remaining in the game off assists from Raymond Speerbrecker (British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary School) and Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/NVK Dominanta) to secure the victory.

After surrendering the early goal, Tyler Roy (Brighton, MI/Brighton High School) slammed the door shut in net. The junior stopped the remaining 32 shots that came his way to pick up his third win of the year. It was the second time in as many days that Roy eclipsed the 30 save total, stopping 65 shots since Friday.

Manhattanville was a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill, making it two straight games they have not allowed a power play goal. Arcadia held a narrow advantage in the faceoff circle, winning 32 draws to Manhattanville's 28. Jarod Lavallee (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) won 12 draws for the Valiants.
