PURCHASE, N.Y. – Making their 2021 home debut, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team remained undefeated on the young season with a 3-0 shutout win over Lebanon Valley College on Friday night. The victory improves the Valiants' record on the season to 3-0 both overall and in UCHC play.
After a scoreless opening period, the Manhattanville offense came to life in the second period. After their initial first goal of the night was ultimately waved off by the officials,
Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) made sure to make her shot count as she buried an unassisted shot six minutes into the period to give the home squad their first official lead of the night. Before the period would come to an end, both
Annie Niedermier (Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and
Maddy Davies (Valley City, N.D./Northern Cyclones (EWHC)) would light the lamps with their first goals of the season to give the Valiants a couple of insurance tallies. Cox,
Faithe Harris (Castlegar, B.C./Pacific Steelers (JWHL)), and
Laney Nash (Edmonds, Wash./Washington Wild (PNAHA)) each picked up an assist on the second period goals.
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) picked up her second shutout of the young season, stopping all 20 Lebanon Valley shots fired her way. Through three games, the junior goaltender has allowed just one goal.
Lebanon Valley had a number of chances to get back into the contest with power play opportunities. The Valiants drew eight minor penalties, including a pair in quick succession late in the first that gave the Flying Dutchmen an abbreviated 5-on-3 opportunity. The Valiants PK unit held tough however, as they have been in all three games this season, successfully killing all of Lebanon Valley's power plays. The Valiants have now successfully killed over 16 of the 17 opposing power plays they have faced this season.
It was yet another successful night in the faceoff circles for the Valiants, as they held a 34-16 advantage on the draws.
Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) led the way with 16 wins, while
Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional) won 10 draws of her own.
