COLMAR, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team was defeated for the first time this season on Friday night, dropping a 3-2 contest at Arcadia. With the loss, the Valiants drop to 4-1 in both overall and UCHC conference play.
Despite erasing a two-goal deficit, Manhattanville was unable to find a response to the Knights' late third period goal by Brooklyn Hendrickson with just under four minutes remaining in regulation.
The Valiants fell behind after Arcadia's Drew Kuretsky scored in the first before Berklee Hibbard put the Knights up by two eight and a half minutes into the second period. Despite facing their biggest deficit of the early season, Manhattanville continued to hang around and put pucks on net. The Valiants were able to get on the board with three minutes remaining in the second, as
Taylor Ham (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) was assisted by
Annie Niedermier (Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and
Hannah Beckman (North Plainfield, N.J./Rice Memorial Prep (Vt.)) in her season debut for her first goal of the season.
Ham would strike again in the third to tie the game back up. With the Valiants on the power play,
Holly Meredith (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Vermont Academy) was able to connect with the senior forward to set up her second score of the night 14:23 into the period. However, Arcadia would recover with the Hendrickson goal to reclaim the lead. The Valiants had a great opportunity to respond with a goal of their own, drawing a penalty a minute later, but none of the nine shots fired during the power play were able to find their way into the net as the Knights finished off the first win in program history.
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) made 11 saves on the night, taking her first loss of the season. Manhattanville was 1-for-6 on the power play while the PK unit successfully killed all five of Arcadia's advantages. The Valiants won 28 of the night's 54 faceoffs, led by 12 wins from
Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy).
